Estrella Foothills High School celebrates 10 years

Estrella Foothills High School, the second high school in the Buckeye Union High School District, opened in the Estrella community in August of 2001.  Now, celebrating its 10th anniversary, EFHS is proud of the accomplishments of the first decade, and hope that it is just the start to the success our students will achieve.  In this first decade, seven classes of seniors have graduated with approximately $15 million in scholarship offerings.  Our athletic teams have won 27 titles, six state runner-up titles, and nine state championship titles.  The Career & College Prep program that originated at Estrella Foothills won an A+ Exemplary Program Award from the Arizona Educational Foundation.  The school has been labeled Excelling by the Arizona Department of Education and designated as an A+ School of Excellence by the Arizona Educational Foundation.

All of these accolades, however, don’t tell the stories that Buckeye resident Alice Charman shared with the students at the first pep assembly of the year.  After the student body participated in a game of EFHS trivia, Alice stood up to address the student body.  She shared that when the school was being built, she submitted the name Estrella Foothills as part of a name the school contest.  She was proud when the name she submitted—honoring the beautiful landscape on which the school sits—won.  As part of her reward, she has been invited to be a part of many events at EFHS.  She turned dirt at the groundbreaking.  She did the coin toss at the first football game.  She cut ribbons as each building was opened.  During the opening of the gym, she wished the school much success in athletics.  During the opening of the Performing Arts Center, she hoped for much talent to be showcased for the community.  As she stood before the student body commemorating the 10th anniversary, she said her wishes for the school have already come true.

We invite the entire Estrella community, whether you have a student in high school or not, to be a part of the traditions at EFHS.  Through the school website, found at www.buhsd.org, you can find out about upcoming plays, concerts, musicals, sporting events, etc.  We are proud to be a part of the Estrella community and hope that Estrella residents are proud of the success our students achieve.
