5th Annual Estrella Kid’s Triathlon Expecting Record Participation

5th Annual Estrella Kid’s Triathlon

Expecting Record Participation

Triathlon allows children to explore their interest in swimming, cycling and running.

Goodyear, AZ (October 17, 2011)—The 5th annual Estrella Kid’s Triathlon, being held this year on November 13th, 2011 is expecting record attendance.  Five years ago when the event was started by several Estrella neighbors, only a few dozen children participated.  This year, event organizers expect over 150 young triathletes.

The triathlon was conceived when some Estrella residents who are triathlon enthusiasts noticed that most kid’s triathlons are associated in some way with adult triathlons.  “We thought the kids would have a much better time if there was a race just for them,” said Amy Vasquez, executive director of Estrella Multi-Sport, the non-profit who organizes the triathlon.

“The most important thing about the Estrella Kid’s Triathlon is that the kids have fun.  We want to make the course hard enough to be challenging, but something that most of them will finish. The kids get such a thrill and feel such a sense of accomplishment when they cross the finish line and receive their finishers’ medal,” she added.

An avid triathlete herself, Vasquez says that finishing a triathlon gives any athlete, young or old, certain bragging rights.  Estrella Triathlon participants proudly walk to school sporting their triathlon tee-shirts and drawstring backpacks.

Because of generous donations, sponsorships and support from the community over the years, EMS has been able to keep the entry-fee reasonably priced, at $20 for Estrella residents and $30 for non-residents. And this year they are giving back by donating a portion of their proceeds to Homeless Youth Connection.

The 5th Annual Estrella Kid’s Triathlon starts at 9 a.m. November 13th at the Starpointe Resident’s Club at Estrella.  It is open to children aged 13 and under.  Participants must register for the triathlon by Oct. 23rd to guarantee a tee-shirt and goodie bag, and no later than Nov. 12 to participate.  To learn more about the 5th Annual Estrella Triathlon and to register for the event, visit www.estrellamultisport.com.
