The City of Goodyear has added another jewel for their residents to enjoy, a brand-new Civic Square just a few miles down the hill from the Estrella community.
Goodyear Civic Square, located at 150th Drive and McDowell, celebrated its Grand Opening August 1 and showcased the new city hall, a two-story library and a new two-acre park perfect for community events.
Harvard Investments land acquisition manager Christian Passalaqua, representing Estrella North LLC, and Estrella Executive Director Lane Powell were among the dignitaries invited to the recent ribbon cutting. “On behalf of the Estrella ownership team, I would like to congratulate the City of Goodyear on this momentous day and opening of the new city hall,” said Passalaqua. “It’s a big day for Estrella residents as well, being right down the street from this facility and many new amenities including the Georgia C. Lord Memorial Library.”
The new city hall offers citizens a central location to find services and is designed to make doing business with the city easy and enjoyable. With this facility Goodyear also proved it is a good steward of taxpayer money. “We were able to bring this project to completion on-time and within budget,” said Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo. “Additionally, there were no new or increased taxes to construct the project.”
An innovation hub is located inside the library building as well. The innovation hub is a free and inspiring space where inventors, problem solvers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses can collaborate, network, expand on their ideas and receive one-on-one mentoring. “I cannot wait to see how Estrella residents put this space to use,” said Estrella Executive Director Lane Powell. “I look forward to our Estrella community members having the opportunity to enhance their entrepreneurial spirit here in the new Goodyear Innovation Hub.”
Goodyear families are already putting Civic Square to use, during the grand-opening festivities more than 100 visitors took part in a sunrise yoga session, enjoyed the oversized chess, cornhole and Ping-Pong gaming areas in the plaza, checked out library books and took photos at the beautiful “Great Joy” sculpture.
And Goodyear Civic Square is just the beginning. It will be the heart of a new downtown featuring shopping, dining and entertainment options for residents. In fact, Mayor Pizzillo says watch for exciting new announcements in the near future.
Passalaqua says the entire Estrella team is excited to see what comes next, “The City of Goodyear has been a great community partner for Estrella, and we are honored to continue that tradition for all those who call Estrella and the City of Goodyear home.”
