11 Top Events in The West Valley: January/February

Welcome to 2023! January and February are considered Phoenix’s high season, and the West Valley gets star billing this year as it plays host to several major national and international events. The weather is nearly perfect this time of year and there’s so much to choose from, including Super Bowl LVII, golf tournaments, monster trucks, car shows, spring training games and a myriad of opportunities to get out and enjoy what the West Valley has to offer in and around Estrella.   • Wag & Tag Pet Festival (January 28)
    Bring your favorite four-legged family members to enjoy activities, giveaways, pet-related vendors and have a barking good time! Times to be announced.

  • Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction (Jan. 21-29, 2023)
    The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale attracts auto enthusiasts from far and wide to an array of unique vintage and modern cars. If you are a car junkie, this is an event you won’t want to miss. We recommend buying your tickets in advance.

  • Waste Management Phoenix Open (Feb. 6-12, 2023)
    The Waste Management Phoenix Open, known as “The People’s Open,” has become a winter staple in Arizona for tourists and locals alike. The attendance of this professional golf tournament usually is about a half-million, making it the best-attended event on the PGA Tour – and arguably the biggest party, as well. Whether you want to follow specific golfers from hole to hole or spend your day at the stadium-like par-3 16th hole, which is the hub of the happenings, you are sure to have the time of your life. In cooperation with Waste Management and other partners, this year’s world-class event will make the community proud and support charity partners.   • Major League Baseball Spring Training (February-March)
    Arizona’s warm weather makes it the ideal spot for spring training, known as the Cactus League, for 15 Major League Baseball teams every February through March. There are ballparks from one side of metro Phoenix to the other so that America’s pastime can be enjoyed no matter where you are. You won’t want to miss an opportunity to spend a day with baseball, hotdogs and loved ones. Check out your favorite ballpark for individual schedules. Ticket details will be determined soon. For the hottest West Valley action, remember Goodyear Ballpark, right down the hill from Estrella, is home to the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians. It’s spring training at its best in one of the valley’s premier ballparks.

  • 12th Annual Arizona Balloon Classic (February 3 – 5)
    This is a great kick-off to Super Bowl LVII week! Hot air balloon races, hot air balloon tether rides, festival food favorites, beer tents, family fun zone with FREE kids’ inflatables, retail vendors and more. Times: Friday at 4 p.m. through Sunday at noon.

  • Vision & Sound: An African American Experience (February 5)
    Enjoy live music in the park by Don Williams & Company, artist demonstrations, workshops, and a chance to talk with artists participating in Goodyear’s Vision and Sound Fine Art Show. 1-4 p.m.

  • Game On Goodyear Block Party (February 11)
    The event will include activities for both kids and adults, including football-themed inflatables, a photo booth and an immersive football experience. For adults, there will be a beer garden, jumbo lawn games, outdoor screens playing football highlights and of course, food! As a partnering city of the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, the city of Goodyear is pumped to host its first ever Game On! Goodyear Block Party. Events are from 2-5 p.m.

  • Pre-Game Tailgate Party at Hurricane Harbor Phoenix (February 11)
    Arizona’s largest water park recently announced a partnership with Coca-Cola for the 2023 season. To kick off the partnership, Six Flags will host a Tailgate Party at Hurricane Harbor Phoenix on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature live music, gaming and a plethora of tailgating activities for the entire family. Special Olympics Arizona will host a Polar Plunge, and a portion of each ticket sale will benefit the beloved local non-profit.

  • Super Bowl LVII (Feb. 12)
    Super Bowl LVII comes to Arizona! Enjoy the experience of a lifetime as the game will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Feel the magnitude of America’s biggest sporting event with spectacular stadium views and earthshaking pregame events.

  • Hiking, Running and Biking Trails (January – May)
    Developed to embrace the natural Sonoran Desert, Estrella offers many opportunities to get outside and keep active. The popular Overlook Trail at Estrella connects into the extensive 40+ mile community trail system. Choose to explore it using whatever method fits your style, whether it’s cycling, running or taking a leisurely walk. The bicycle “pump track” is especially popular for cycling enthusiasts. It’s part of the Foothills Community Park and provides a continuous loop of smooth dirt mounds and berms that are ridden by bicyclists using a pumping motion to maintain speed without pedaling.

  • Wigwam Festival of Fine Art (February 17-19)
    Arizona’s premier fine art event is in the West Valley. The Wigwam Festival of Fine Art, located at the historic Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, showcases more than 100 of the most accomplished and renowned artists in the southwest. As you take in the beautiful art, enjoy live music, dancers, great dining options, and cool drinks.
